2009 Award
Mr. Hideho Kawamura, president of the Manpei Suzuki Diabetes Foundation gave the opening address and presented the 2009 Manpei Suzuki International Prize for Diabetes Research to Dr. Donald F. Steiner, A. N. Pritzker Distinguished Service Professor Emeritus, Departments of Medicine and Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, The University of Chicago, Chicago IL, on March 2, 2010, at a ceremony held in Tokyo, Japan.
Dr. Steiner received a Certificate of Honor, US$150,000, and a Japanese objet d’art.

Dr. Masato Kasuga (M.D., Ph.D. Director-General, Research Institute, International Medical Center of Japan) presented the reasons for bestowing the 2009 Prize to Dr. Donald F. Steiner.
Dr. Steiner’s commemorative lecture was entitled, “Insulin Research: A Personal Prospective of 50 Years.”
