Mr. Takashi Shoda, president of the Manpei Suzuki Diabetes Foundation gave the opening address and presented the 2011 Manpei Suzuki International Prize for Diabetes Research to Dr. Masato Kasuga, Director-General, Research Institute, National Center for Global Health and Medicine, on February 28, 2012, at a ceremony held in Tokyo, Japan.

Dr. Kasuga received a Certificate of Honor, US$150,000, and a Japanese objet d’art.

The Chairman of the Selection Committee presented the reasons for bestowing the 2011 Prize to Dr. Masato Kasuga.

Dr. Kasuga’s award lecture was entitled, “A journey to elucidate the insulin signaling network for understanding diabetes.”
