2016 Award

Mr. Takashi Shoda, president of the Manpei Suzuki Diabetes Foundation presented
the 2016 Manpei Suzuki International Prize for Diabetes Research to Dr. Jeffery M.
Friedman, Professor of the Rockefeller University and the investigator of the
Howard Hughes Medical Institute, at the ceremony held on March 2, 2017 in
Tokyo, Japan.

After Dr. Masato Kasuga, the chair of the Selection Committee of the prize
presented the reason for bestowing the 2016 Prize on Dr. Jeffrey M. Friedman, he
received a Certificate of Honor, US$150,000, and a Japanese objet d’art.
