2012 Award
Mr. Takashi Shoda, president of the Manpei Suzuki Diabetes Foundation gave the opening address and presented the 2012 Manpei Suzuki International Prize for Diabetes Research to Dr. Graeme I. Bell, Louis Block Distinguished Service Professor in Medicine and Human Genetics, the University of Chicago, USA, on February 5, 2013, at a ceremony held in Tokyo, Japan.
Dr. Bell received a Certificate of Honor, US$150,000, and a Japanese objet d’art.

Dr. Takashi Kadowaki, the chair of the Selection Committee presented the reasons for bestowing the 2012 Prize to Dr. Graeme I. Bell.
Dr.Bell’s award lecture was entitled, “Diabetes: A Personal Journey from Genes to Genetics to Personalized Medicine”
